A estória de High School Musical é a seguinte: dois jovens apaixonados por música acabem gostando um do outro. A escola em que eles estudam irá produzir um musical, e eles tentam conseguir os papéis principais.
Troy é um garoto muito popular na escola e Gabriella é uma menina muito estudiosa. Nas férias, eles participam de um concurso de karaokê e acabam descobrindo-se extremamente apaixonados por cantar e surge uma atração muito grande entre eles.
No início das aulas, os dois se encontram novamente na mesma turma da escola, e vão batalhar por um papel na produção de um musical do colégio.
